CPB Gives Ultimatum to the Chief Advisor: Immediate Reconstitution of Election Commission and State Administration Demanded The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) has given an ultimatum to the Chief Advisor of the interim Care Taker Government (CTG) for immediate reconstitution of Election Commission and State Administration. They said that the main tasks of the CTG is to conduct a free fair and neutral election within 3 months and hand over power to the new elected govt. For this it is necessary to remove the partisan bias of the Election Commission and the Administration which has been carefully and plan fully built up by the BNP-Jamat government which ceased to exist on 27th Oct. 2006. CPB leaders said that if The CTG fails to act accordingly the Party will go for a strong movement countrywide. The leaders of CPB declared this while addressing a public meeting organized by the Party on 10th November at Muktangon, Dhaka. Presided over by Party President Manzurul Ahsan Khan the meeting was also addressed by the General Secretary of the Party Mujahidul Islam Selim and other central leaders of the Party and leaders of mass organizations. Accusing the Care Taker Government (CTG) CPB leaders said that during the few days after taking charge, the government had failed to prove their neutrality. They are simply maintaining the continuation of the immediate past BNP-Jamat led government. They said that by saying ‘the country is now under presidential form of government’ President Iajuddin Ahmed has not only ignored the other advisors but also violated the Constitution and breached of his oath. By his recent steps and actions it has already been proved that he is just implementing the blue print of a farcical election, prepared from before by BNP-Jamat government, CPB leaders added. Calling upon the nation to build up a serious movement against plunder, communalism and imperialism the CPB leaders said that the whole country is now in a deep crisis. The militant religious extremists havey challenged to the country’s Constitution, Judiciary and democratic process to destroy the sovereign existence of the country. The present Care Taker Government is trying to make the Army controversial by using it to fulfill the hidden agenda of BNP-Jamat. The CPB leaders said, it is the experience since Pakistani days that military interventions in politics is never helpful for the country and it rather creates new and deeper crisis and destruction. They said that to disrupt the democratic and constitutional process of the country, which has been achieved through the bloody anti-military democratic struggle of 80s, will be tantamount to playing with fire. The common people of the country want peace, not clashes and confrontation. They want a truly free and fair election. For this it is essential to reconstitute Election Commission and the state administration and also make the Election Commission independent, and powerful. Demanding that it be ensured that the election free from money and muscle power, the CPB leaders said that this can be brought about by implementing the 53 point demand charter of comprehensive electoral reform proposed by the Party. They said without this comprehensive reform true people’s representative will never be elected. They demanded the introduction of proportional representation, right of voters to withdraw of MPs for their failure in responsibilities, more empowerment of Local Government, strict control of election expenditure, increase of reserved women seat and direct election for them and equal opportunity for all candidates in election campaign etc. CPB leaders said that the ongoing anarchy and turmoil in the country is the ugly manifestation of the bankruptcy of ‘plundering capitalism’ and ‘pro imperialist bourgeois politics’. They said only a Left Democratic alternative will be able to free the country from this deep rooted crisis. They said that it is the essential political task for all patriots to ensure that the country is not once again burdened by of the misrule of BNP-Jamat government. But to ensure the removed of the fundamental problems and crisis in economy, politics and society, in addition to the `Change of government’ it is essential to also bring about a `Change of Policy’. For this it is necessary to build up a `Left democrats alternative’. The leaders of CPB called upon all left-progressive forces to start united struggle for this immediate political task. They said CPB is continuing its two faced simultaneous struggle to build a Left Democratic alternative and as well as to free the country from the clutches of BNP-Jamat misrule. CPB leaders called upon its Comrades and the people to resist any type of farcical election designed by BNP-Jamat government through people oriented and peace full struggle. Expressing Party’s serious concern about the recent unlawful activities of US ambassador and other foreign diplomats CPB leaders said that US imperialism is the main enemy of democracy. The US imperialism is always trying to plunder the natural resources of Bangladesh. US Imperialism and its collaborators are exploiting, plundering and carrying on aggressive attacks all over the world. Imperialism is and its cronies are committing crime against humanity in Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine. It has declared war against the democratically elected government of Palestine and continuing criminal activities against Cuba, Venezuela and many other countries. They said the by trying to get blessing from the imperialist bosses bourgeois politicians of Bangladesh are taking suicidal steps for the country. They called upon the people to remain alert about the conspiracy of imperialism.
